Disk Types
We transfer commonly used computer disk formats.
1981 ~ 2010
The 3½-inch Floppy Disk was introduced by SONY in 1981 as a smaller alternative to the 5¼-inch floppy disk. The format took off in 1984 with the introduction of the original Apple Macintosh. At first, the 3½-inch Floppy Disk held 720 K of data but this was later increased to 1.4 MB and 2.8 MB. It was replaced by the Zip drive and USB flash drive. SONY stopped manufacturing floppy disks in 2010.
1982 ~ Present
In 1982, Philips and Sony introduced the Compact Disc (CD) as a digital audio format. By the 90's CD-ROMS entered the market for games and software. The late 1990's brought us Recordable CD's (CD-R) which allowed the backup and transport of data. Similarly, DVDs began as a digital video format in the late 1990's and later developed a DVD-R format for data backup and data delivery.
1995 ~ 2012
The Iomega Zip Disk was introduced in 1994 as a replacement for the 3½-inch Floppy Disk. This disk format became popular with media professionals and graphic artists because the disk held 100 MB of data - 75 times more than the floppy. The Zip Disk later increased its size to 250 MB and then 750 MB. By the mid 2000's the Zip Disk was eventually replaced by CD-R's and USB flash drive.
