TransferData Disks

If we have trouble reading one of your disks, we typically move on to the next item in your order so the rest of the project keeps progressing, then report what failed and what (if anything) we could recover.

Not every old disk is recoverable—age, mold, magnetic fade, deep scratches, and obsolete formats all reduce success rates. We transfer readable data as-is; we do not guarantee 100% recovery.

You only pay for successful, agreed-upon work based on our estimate and what we complete. Contact us with photos of the media if you want a pre-check on whether a format is supported.

We do not currently offer Iomega Jaz (Jazz) disk transfer as a standard service, though we periodically evaluate older disk formats based on equipment and demand.

We do help with many other data disks such as common floppy disks, Zip disks, CDs, and DVDs when the media is readable. If you have Jaz disks, contact us with the disk type and approximate age—we can confirm current capability or suggest next steps.

For supported disks, we transfer the data as stored on the media and return your originals with the recovered files on a modern drive or download.

At this time we focus on transferring data as-is from your disks (copying the files off readable media onto a modern USB drive or download). We do not routinely convert legacy document, spreadsheet, or specialty file formats into the newest application versions.

Once your files are off the old disk, you can open many of them on a modern computer or use conversion tools/software suited to that file type. If you have a specific format in mind, mention it when you contact us—we can tell you whether a simple transfer is enough or whether you will need a separate conversion workflow after recovery.

We do not currently transfer 5.25-inch floppy disks as a standard service. Our data disk work focuses on more commonly requested formats we support in-house (such as certain 3.5" floppies, Zip disks, CDs, and DVDs, depending on condition).

If 5.25-inch support is critical for your project, contact us—we can confirm whether anything has changed or help you understand alternatives. When we do transfer supported disks, we copy readable data as-is and return your originals with files on a modern delivery method.

Minor disk issues are sometimes workable, but we do not advertise full disk repair as a guaranteed service. Scratched optical discs, failing magnetic media, and physically cracked shells each behave differently.

We will attempt a careful read of supported disk types. If a disc needs light cleaning or a simple intervention we are comfortable performing, we may try it. We do not promise recovery from severely damaged or unreadable media.

Best practice: do not force a sticky or noisy disk in a drive—contact us first. For important data, even partial recovery can be valuable; we will be honest about what is possible after inspection.
