Photo transfer FAQ
What scan resolution do you use for photos, slides, and negatives?
Straight answer from RVA Rewind, a local media digitizing studio in Richmond, Virginia. We help with Photographic prints, 35mm slides, and common negative formats (plus restoration for damaged or faded images).
We scan at resolutions chosen for each format so your digital files stay sharp for viewing, sharing, and printing:
• Photo prints: 600 DPI minimum (optional higher-resolution upgrade available for restoration or large prints)
• Slides: 4000+ DPI
• Negatives: 4000+ DPI
Exact pixel dimensions depend on the physical size of the original. Higher-resolution slides and negatives capture fine detail for enlargements and archives; 600 DPI prints are ideal for everyday use and quality reprints up to about 8×10.
Files are typically delivered as high-quality JPEGs (other formats on request) on a USB drive or download. If prints are faded, torn, or stained, ask about photo restoration on the digital copy—originals are still returned unchanged.

- Group and label photos, slides, or negatives the way you want them organized.
- We scan at resolutions suited to each format and can restore selected images when requested.
