Video transfer FAQ
How is video tape quality preserved when digitizing?
Straight answer from RVA Rewind, a local media digitizing studio in Richmond, Virginia. We help with VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, and many related consumer camcorder formats.
We capture VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, MiniDV, and related formats carefully in Richmond, VA, then deliver standard digital files you can play on computers, smart TVs, and phones.
Typical delivery: MP4 (H.264), standard-definition progressive video suitable for everyday viewing and sharing. Professional options such as ProRES are available on request for editing workflows.
What we preserve: We transfer the usable content from the tape with professional decks and monitoring. Optional add-ons—noise reduction, color correction, and editing—can further improve the look after capture. What you get back: Digital files on USB and/or download, plus your original tapes.
Turnaround is usually about 3–6 weeks depending on order size and condition. Details and estimates are on our video transfer page. For related questions, see our video FAQ on short tapes, blank tapes, and keeping tapes in order.
How this works at RVA Rewind
Video tape is fragile: magnetic binder can shed, mold can grow in damp storage, and playback decks are getting harder to maintain. A careful transfer captures the best remaining signal so you can watch, share, and back up home movies without wearing the originals.
- Send or drop off your labeled tapes with any notes about order or special requests.
- We digitize each tape carefully and keep your sequence when you give us a clear order.
- You receive digital movie files plus your original tapes back.
