Audio transfer FAQ
What if my audio tape or record is blank?
Straight answer from RVA Rewind, a local media digitizing studio in Richmond, Virginia. We help with Compact cassettes, reel-to-reel, vinyl records, 8-tracks, and other common consumer audio formats we support.
If we find a cassette, reel, or record is blank during digitizing, we will contact you promptly by email or phone to discuss next steps. We charge a small $6 inspection fee for the time spent checking blank media. You are not charged a full transfer fee for content that is not there.
Your original media is always returned. Blank sides happen more often than people expect—misrecorded tapes, demos that were never finished, or records that look promising but have no usable content.
If you believe something should be on the tape or record, we can discuss a deeper check; additional fees may apply depending on the extra time and equipment needed. For large batches, it still helps to label which items are highest priority.

How this works at RVA Rewind
Personal audio—family messages, homemade tapes, vinyl collections—often exists on media that is hard to play today. A clean digital transfer lets you listen on phones, computers, and smart speakers without risking the last good play of a fragile tape or record.
- Tell us the formats you have and any track-splitting or cleanup needs.
- We capture audio carefully from start to finish on each side or reel.
- Files are delivered in everyday digital formats with your originals returned.
