Audio transfer FAQ
Will cassette or reel tracks be separated into individual songs?
Straight answer from RVA Rewind, a local media digitizing studio in Richmond, Virginia. We help with Compact cassettes, reel-to-reel, vinyl records, 8-tracks, and other common consumer audio formats we support.
By default, we capture each tape or side carefully in a continuous transfer from start to finish, so we do not automatically split every song into separate files. A high-quality continuous digital file per side or tape is ideal for many customers who want faithful listening and archiving.
If you need individual track splits, editing, or cleanup beyond a straight transfer, tell us when you order—those are available as add-on services when the source material allows. Live recordings, mixtapes, and multi-song reels vary widely; silence gaps and applause make automatic splitting unreliable without review.
We can discuss options during your estimate so expectations match the recording. Aggressive editing is not applied by default because it can change the character of historic tapes and home recordings.

How this works at RVA Rewind
Personal audio—family messages, homemade tapes, vinyl collections—often exists on media that is hard to play today. A clean digital transfer lets you listen on phones, computers, and smart speakers without risking the last good play of a fragile tape or record.
